"I've gotten pretty used some ways to deal with youkai and stuff."
Not sure what that's supposed to say. Maybe "I've gotten pretty used to dealing with youkai and stuff" or "I've got a few ways to deal with youkai and stuff."
@Master Sigiward Like two and a half years later, but I'd say that the canon lore supports this, though not to the level Zounose portrays. It has implied youkai DO get nourishment from somewhere else because only the fear isn't enough for their existence. That said, the humans in Gensokyo are protected by the youkai, as are the youkai themselves, as long as nobody upends the peace (which has already been somewhat defined in the novels and the manga). They do get into power plays, tho, but only between them, as being overt about it in the village is off-limits. Yes, HM is an exception because it was pointed out later that the villagers thought it was just proselytizing. Nonetheless, I can kinda see most of the Zounose doujins possibly having a place as dubious-canon instead of just fanworks, if with a few modifications. But Touhou is a primarily feel-good series (hell, the final SFW ending outright says that), so even if that was how things actually worked behind the scenes, you'll never reach any level of grimdark in the official works, at most regular grim for cliffhangers.
