Irodori has a licensing deal with Alp. This is going to get nuked. Not to mention Irodori's translation has been available for a few months now (and has been ripped to Hentainexus...)

Don't know if this is your translation, OP, but word of advice: you don't want shit getting nuked, maybe stay away from translating anything by artists who have licensing deals, yeah? Shouldn't need to explain this at this point...

EDIT: you admit to using Torii, so you effectively used AI. Word of advice: don't do that either. AI sucks.

Join Simth: Alp has signed a licensing deal for his original doujinshi with a publisher known as Irodori Comics (Alp's Love Live and other parody doujinshi are not part of the license, hence why they haven't been taken down). Irodori is very aggressive about what they perceive as piracy, even for raws; I believe it is part of their pitch to artists (that they'll make sure their stuff isn't pirated); that also includes translations. Not entirely sure that policing the raws is legal, but they are allowed (and obligated) to protect their IP under US copyright law. If they send a takedown request to EH, EH has to comply with it. Seen it numerous times.

There's nothing wrong with Alp's work in and of itself, but if he's already signed up with someone (Irodori, as I said), I'm of the opinion that fan translators should let the publishers work their side of the street. Keeps the target on this sites back to a slightly more reasonable size. Plus, as I said, Irodori's translation has already been ripped to another site. So it's a case of 'why bother'?

The use of AI is more straightforward: AI is nowhere near advanced enough to reliably be used for translation. It cannot understand the nuances of language, particularly for a language like Japanese, which has a lot of regional dialects. And if you don't speak the language you're translating into (which seems to be the case with a lot of English MTL posts on here), you won't understand how poorly it reads. I've read several English MTLs and while the point gets across, they all read strangely (the phrase 'lost in translation' comes to mind). It'd be like me using AI to translate something into Chinese: I do not read or speak that language, so I won't understand what the machine is putting out or why it's incorrect.

Seems like the best way to scanlate is to stay as far away from the U fucking S of A as possible.

7dnc2: or recognize that there is other stuff to translate out there. Not gonna lie, if I was a Japanese doujinshi artist and wanted my shit to sell in the west but hated piracy, Irodori's pitch is attractive. #sorrynotsorry Just don't use AI for translation.

I don't get this logic, though. EVERY. SINGLE. SCANLATION. I have read says something to the effect of 'please support an official English release when/if one occurs'. They're occurring, so what's the problem?

@DJ_Puchuu
No problem at all, officer. I buy physical manga directly from Japan, scan it, clean it up, and then pass it on to those who handle the actual translation. A non-commercial one. I consider that sufficient support.
I just don't like the USA, copyright in its current form and the assholes who don't actually give anything back to the mangakas. That's my subtle dig at the official translators, yeah.

7dnc2: far as I know, the artists ARE getting royalties from Fakku, Irodori, and J18. I remember seeing a very interesting Twitter exchange some years between the artist of some monster girl book (forget who it was and the title of the book) and a goober. The artist had retweeted a tweet from the Fakku books account, saying how excited they were to have their work available to western readers, and this dumbfuck replied to the artist, asking when it was gonna be on ***** and some other site (likely Hitomi), and the artist, presumably more than a little indignant/incredulous, replied 'those are piracy sites, I don't get royalties from those', and homeboy, clearly not realizing who he was talking to, replied, and I quote '***** it is then'.

If that's not confirmation that they're getting royalties, I don't know what is.

Now, if you wanna talk about Irodori apparently pulling a 4Kids with a couple of their translations, that's a whole other ballgame.

Wait, what's this about Irodori pulling a 4Kids now...?

Retconner: they apparently changed the names in their release of Ryou Kataomoi ga Minoranai Gyaru-san wa Iramura Chikunii ga Tomaranai!. This seems to be the only instance of it, or at least it's the only one I've heard of.

Source is https://eh.makinico.moe/g/3867655/f721e5594e/

I will say that, reading the MTL linked above, that the artist might have been going for wordplay with the names and that it might not translate well with the ones he chose, which would explain their decision to do what they did. However, I cannot confirm that with 100% certainty.
